How much does in-home care cost in Oregon, and does Medicare or Medicaid cover it?

AAA In Home Care’s posted self-pay rates currently start at $42 per hour for activities of daily living, with the final cost based on the services and hours in your personalized care plan. We provide a tailored quote after learning what support you need.

Medicare generally does not cover stand-alone non-medical personal care. It may cover qualifying part-time home health aide services when you also need skilled care and meet Medicare’s home health requirements. Oregon Medicaid may cover long-term services for eligible people. Oregon Project Independence (OPI) has no income or asset limit but uses a sliding fee scale, while the Medicaid-funded OPI-M program is free for adults who meet its care, income, and resource requirements. Your local Aging and People with Disabilities or Area Agency on Aging office can confirm eligibility; AAA In Home Care can help you identify the right place to start.

What’s the difference between home care and home health care?

In-home care—sometimes called personal care or non-medical care—helps with everyday activities such as bathing, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping, mobility, and companionship. Home health care provides skilled medical services, such as nursing or physical therapy, that are usually ordered by a qualified medical provider after an illness, injury, or hospitalization.

AAA In Home Care is licensed in Oregon as a Comprehensive in-home care agency. That classification allows an agency to provide personal care, medication services, nursing services, and nurse-taught or delegated services within the client’s service plan and the agency’s scope. We’ll help you understand which kind of support fits your situation.

What services do your caregivers provide, and how do I know if my family member qualifies?

AAA In Home Care caregivers can help with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, and toileting. They can also support meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, companionship, errands, and transportation. As a Comprehensive agency, AAA In Home Care can support more involved needs through nursing, medication services, and nurse-taught or delegated services when included in the service plan.

There is no program-style eligibility test to begin private-pay care; care is based on the support you or your loved one needs at home. Medicaid, OPI-M, and other assistance programs have their own financial and care-need rules. We can help you identify questions to ask, while the administering agency makes the eligibility decision.
